"New York Mining Disaster 1941", their first international hit single, was supported by an advertising campaign introducing the Bee Gees as "The most significant new musical talent of 1967", a haughty statement by their manager, Robert Stigwood, but how incredibly prophetic it turned out to be! The song tells the story of trapped miners sending a message to their loved- ones. The flipside, the soulful "I Can’t See Nobody", proved another classic in the making.
